Our Commitment

LGBTQ+ Inclusivity

The Positive Birth Company is on a mission to make birth education more accessible for all, because we believe everyone deserves equal access to the knowledge, tools and support for the best birth possible.

We believe that it is our responsibility to use our platform to actively promote inclusion and equality, and one of the ways we do this is through our work as an LGBTQIA+ ally, for those within our village and beyond. We strive to ensure our social media platforms have regular LGBTQIA+ representation, using social posts and blogs to elevate LGBTQIA+ voices. Each year we dedicate space on our platforms for Pride Month and June 2021 sees the launch of #ProudParent - a photography and storytelling campaign featuring members of our community.

With regards to our courses, these are for everyone. We are currently undertaking a content refresh to update the language used within them to reflect our inclusivity commitments, and are also working on additional workshops (see below).

Course changes and additions we have commissioned since 2020 include:

Hypnobirthing Pack

  • 2020 Update: Infant Feeding Guide - covering, supplementing, expressing and Breast/Chest Feeding guidance for transgender and non binary parents.

  • 2021 Update: Pronouns added to Birth Preferences

The Pregnancy Pack

Postpartum Pack

  • June 2021: Feeding workshop including chest feeding for trans and non binary parents.

  • June 2021: Bottle Feeding Workshop.

PBC Team training undertaken

We will be honest - we do have work to do. But we are fully committed to constantly learning and putting our money where our mouth is in seeking advice from our community, networks and commissioning external experts, and we will continue to be open/transparent about the improvements we need to make as a company as we go.

EQUALITY FOR TRANS FAMILIES

In June 2021, Freddy McConnell founded the Nonprofit Organisation Equality for Trans Families, a full legal recognition and equality for UK families with one or more trans parent. The Positive Birth Company supported the launch of the campaign by donating £1000 to the fund. If you wish, you can support and donate here.
