Doing business right

Back in 2016 when our Founder Siobhan set up The Positive Birth Company, she didn’t know much about business but what she did have was a mission ‘to change the world, one birth at a time’.

As the business grew, so did the community, the team and our products, but at the core of everything remains Siobhan’s mission.

In 2022 we are so excited and immensely proud to announce that The Positive Birth Company has become a Certified B Corporation, joining 5,500 companies across the world, committed to using business as a force for good.

What does this mean?

As a B Corp we are part of a global community who, like us, believe in doing business responsibly.

Following a rigorous, in-depth application that looked at all parts of our business, we have been verified as meeting their high standards for social and environmental impact and have made a public declaration and commitment to serving all stakeholders, not just shareholders. You can find our profile here.

This is just the beginning for us, and we are by no means perfect. By certifying, we commit to continuous improvement in meeting rising standards for social and environmental performance. We also have the opportunity to work with other passionate and inspiring businesses within the B Corp community in making the world a fairer and better place.

People over profit…

Our Community – we are committed to making antenatal and postnatal education affordable, accessible and inclusive in order to empower and support our community embarking on their journey into parenthood. We have dedicated free resources for our community available across our social platforms including a recently commissioned YouTube workshop in ‘Navigating Pregnancy as an LGBT+ Person’ and ‘Navigating Pregnancy as a Black Person’

Our People – we prioritise looking after our people and want them to thrive. We are a real living wage employer, we focus on good mental health by offering services such as a life coach and specific mental health days, plus set individual development funds to encourage personal progression. We also offer plenty of other benefits including free meals, enhanced parental leave and fertility leave.

Change for Good - In the last year we pledged 1.5% of revenue to charitable donations, 5% of our team time to volunteering and 3.5% of revenue to pro bono work. We also pledged £50,000 to help fund research, projects and initiatives that support Black and Asian women and birthing people and partner with organisations and healthcare professionals including Five X More.

What’s next?

All B Corps have to meet the high standards. We will be audited and scored every three years against the B Impact Assessment to check we are moving in the right direction - upwards! Our recertification will be in 2025 and we have set a goal to reach 90 B Corp points (out of 200) by then, so we have plenty of work to do!

Being a B Corp is more than just hitting the right score however, it’s a promise to put people and planet over profit, every time. A commitment which we are all behind at The Positive Birth Company and we can’t wait to share our journey with you!
