Birth story - Bridey and baby Cove

I was shown your page by a friend on Instagram. I was so intrigued to all the positivity around birth as I had only ever heard horror stories about labour. I wasn’t at all scared about birth and I was second guessed and made to feel silly for not fearing it and as soon as I saw your page I knew my gut was right and there was nothing to be scared of.

I immediately started watching your YouTube videos at around 30 weeks and practising my breathing techniques whenever I had the chance and I bought the Freya app. I was genuinely excited to meet my son and because of you, I knew that everything that was going to happen was natural and my body was able to handle every second.

On the 16th of October, I started throwing up at around 9.30pm and having all the symptoms of food poisoning, I rang my labour ward and told them what was happening and they told me to report back in the morning if I was still feeling the same. I decided to try and get some rest and sleep it off, but I woke up around 12.30am with period pains, I ignored them and went back to sleep, waking up around 3am to strong pains. I immediately got excited, started using the Freya app and bouncing on my birthing ball, messaged my husband to come home from work and started getting in the zone.

My surges lasted a minute after around two hours, I didn’t stop moving the entire time keeping my body upright or on my birthing ball doing the figure 8.  I rang the labour ward letting them know how long my surges were lasting, but I decided to stay at home until I was struggling, it got to 6am and I decided I wanted to go in to the hospital to use the birthing pool.

When I arrived it was 6.30, I was 5cm dilated, but quickly deflated by one of the midwives who told me I would only dilate half a cm per hour.

I didn’t let it bother me, carried on focusing with my breathing and quickly got into the pool. The surges were getting extremely strong now and I was throwing up in between every one. I was offered gas and air, but it just completely threw my breathing techniques off and I decided against it, the warm water was enough and breathing consistently through the contractions was getting me through. Instead I squeezed my husbands hand to death and powered through.

I was fully dilated and ready to push in under two hours and our beautiful son was born on the 17th of October at 8.17am. I had no help and I tore, ending up with only 5 stitches. I’ve also broken my tail bone from the pushing but who cares?!

I have never been so empowered by my bodies ability’s, and thankful for such an amazing uplifting experience because of the positive birth company. My birth was so quick easy and amazing and I honestly look back at it in complete amazement.
