Birth story - Paige and baby Fraser
I woke up at 1am with my first mild surges, went to the toilet saw that I’d had my show. I woke my partner and we decided to go downstairs and get comfy on the sofa.
We called the midwife at 4am saying my surges were getting regular, every 5 mins or so. But they told us the home birth service had been suspended for the night due to sickness and I’d have to come in to the hospital.
I basically said I’d be able to breathe through and wait for someone to come on shift at 8am and they were happy with that.
When my midwife came at 9am she was so respectful of my choices, didn’t push for any vaginal exams as I said I didn’t want any. She said I seemed to be coping well and she’d go out on a visit and come back after. She said to call her if anything changed and in the meantime she said my partner should set the pool up.
I used this time to listen to my hypnobirthing tracks over and over untill about 12pm to which I told my partner I wanted to get in the pool. He called the midwife and told her and she said she’d be straight over.
The pool was an amazing relief although it took me a few surges to find which position was best for me. When my midwife came back at around 1ish she monitored me for about half an hour and then I started involuntary pushing.
The second midwife showed up 15 minutes before he came out, with the gas and air, and he was born. Everyone was amazed and said I’d coped so well but I thought it was the best experience of my life☺️
